I was tooling around at the junkyard today and started measuring and checking different coil springs, and found this out. Jeep Grand Cherokee V8(1993-1997) front springs WILL FIT PATHFINDERS!
1a. JGC V8 front springs are nine coils tall
1b. Pathy springs are eight coils tall
2. JGC springs are roughly 2 1/2" longer than Pathfinder springs(uncompressed)
3. The coil wire thickness of the JGC spring is greater. Pathfinder spring wire thickness is .5 inch, JGC springs are .58 inch.
4. Inside diameter of the coils are the same as well.
All of this means that they are higher spring rate than the Pathy springs as well as being taller than the Pathy springs. The only thing necessary to make them fit into the rear of a Pathy is that about 3/4 of the top coil will have to be chopped off, beacuse the JGC springs taper down to about a 3" inside diameter at the very top. Other than that, they're 4" inside diameter, and they're about two full coils longer than Pathy springs. We may have a cheap and easy solution for rear lift coils here besides the crappy Ford coils, folks. I also measured and checked out the Grand Cherokee 4.0L straight 6 front coils, they are lower spring rate(approximately .52 inch wire diameter) and the same height, as far as I can tell, nine coils tall. More to come later, with pics after I buy and test-fit the JGC V8 springs. |
